KDUZ/KARP radio stations announced their all-area team from 16 schools on the Sports Roundup. Area coaches make the nominations and the KDUZ/KARP staff choose the winners. Jeff Haag of Eden Valley-Watkins, a junior under coach Mike Tomsche, was chosen as an all-area infielder. Haag hit .525 with nine doubles, one triple, two HRs, 25 RBIs and 21 runs scored. Paul Hughes, a senior infielder at Kimball under coach David Traurig, was chosen as the comeback player of the year. Tom suffered a torn ACL in the football season and came back to have one of the best seasons by any baseball player in the area. Hit .386 for the Cubs with 15 runs scored, 22 RBI, five doubles, and five HRs. On-base percentage was .463 and has a fielding percentage of 92. He has a good swing with power and a strong arm at the hot corner according to Joel Niemeyer. The 2005 Softball all-area team included two girls from Eden Valley-Watkins, under coach Dave Dziengel. Katie Crozon and Lacy Hemmesch, both juniors, made the team. Crozon hit .468 with 11 RBI, two doubles, three triples and 17 runs scored for the Eagles. Hemmesch, a converted first-basemen, stepped in behind the plate after the regular catcher was injured and did a stellar job. She hit .385 with 18 RBI, two doubles, 12 runs scored, and played well defensively.
