Section 5AA First Round Kimball vs. Norwood Young America at Faber Field, St. Cloud Kimball 4 – NYA 3 Kimball played it’s first game in section play on Monday, June 4, against Norwood Young America. Kimball started slow, but game on in the end. NYA scored three runs in the third inning against Adam Magnuson and was threatening in the top of the seventh with bases loaded, but MAtt Dingmann came in to shut NYA down and get the Cubs back in the dugout. Kimball trailing 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh and two outs with two runners on. Catcher Karl Hunt hits a ground ball to third, and a throwing ERA allows two runs – Ben Knaus and Adam Magnuson – to score to tie the game. “Karl had to hustle to first to gives us a shot to stay alive and his slide into the base was evident of his hustle”. Jason Tenney was up next and he too hit a ground ball in the infield and beat out the throw. This put Karl on two as the winning run. Matt Dingmann came to the plate and hit a line drive walk off hit down the first base line which allowed Karl Hunt to score form second. The Cubs advanced to play Paynesville in the next game of the section tournament. “We played well and everyone hustled, we gave the crowd something to cheer about at the end.” June 5 Kimball vs. Paynesville at Faber Field Kimball 2 – Paynesville 11 After comming off an emotional game the night before, Kimball wound up playing Paynesville in the second round of section play. Paynesville coming off of a lost the night before to Glencoe Silver Lake, was determined to set up a rematch. Paynesville hit everyhting starter Matt Dingmann throw. “They even went out and golfed a few out of the dirt for hits”. Kimball would play good ball, but Paynesville went out and took it to the Cubs. “We had a great run, we just ran into a very good team. It was great to see so many fans in the stands, usually Paynesville carries a big crowd but I think Kimball had more fans tonight. Kimball hitting: Matt Dingmann 2-3, Tommy Linn 1-1.  Kimball Cubs Baseball ended the season 9-14, subsection 5AA district 19 runner ups and made it to the second round of the Section. “All in all, I would say we played well, and surprised some people, we just wanted respect and I think the boys earned it.” The team would like to thank area businesses for theirsupport in bringing KDUZ-KARP to Faber Field to broadcast our games. We would also like to thank the fans who followed along with us on the playoff run and all season long. Fan support means a lot to the program and it is really appreciated. Baseball Awards Kimball Cubs baseball team was awarded two all-conference selections – Matt Dingmann and Jeff Hunt were selected. Steve Lochen and Jason Tenney were awarded all conference second team. Kimball Baseball also did well in academics too; they were awarded six All-Conference Academic winners, as well. To qualify a player needs a 3.7 or better GPA. This year’s winners include Matt Dingmann, Jeff Hunt, Aaron Lahr, Andy Dingmann, Sam Scheeler and Kurt Kuechle.
