Kimball boys trounce Milaca, Mortensen scores 1,000th point

On Monday, Feb. 5, the Kimball boys’ basketball team hosted Milaca. 

At halftime the score had accumulated to 48 for Kimball and 38 for Milaca. Bryant Knaus had scored 25 points, and Milaca was persistent with their three-point shots. 

“Milaca shot the three very well, hitting eight in the half,” said coach Jay Klein. 

By the end of the game, the Cubs had scored 86 points to Milaca’s 71. 

“Our ball movement was excellent, and we ended up with 23 assists; and three players had at least five total,” said coach Klein. 

The Cubs achieved their victory with Bryant Knaus with an electric 33 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists; Owen Mortensen scoring 18 points with 5 assists; Brandon Henkemeyer with 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 6 assists; Ronnie Arnold with 2 points and 6 rebounds; Andray Stang with 4 points; Jed Spaulding with 13 points, 14 rebounds, and 6 assists; and Carl Knaus with 12 points and 6 rebounds. 

Going into this game, Owen Mortensen needed 18 points to achieve the 1,000-point mark. Throughout the course of the game, Mortensen was fouled several times with each foul sparking a louder cheer from the crowd as they knew with confidence he’d score his free-throws. Surely, Mortensen achieved the 1,000-point mark through his free-throws. The gym erupted in applause and cheers as Mortensen rejoiced with his family in the bleachers.
