Kimball boys win two more

·

The Cubs cruised through another winning week of hoops, topping Swanville, 71-54, Tuesday, Jan. 24; and defeated HL-W-W, 51-33, on Thursday, Jan. 26.

(Swanville Game) Kimball jumped out to an early lead at 24-5 with great perimeter shooting. Darius Westrich hit five threes in the first half and Drew Gustafson added two more. In the first half, Kimball was 7/11 from 3-point range and 8/12 on deuces. The Cubs took a 44-22 lead into the half.

?ÄúI was happy with the way we shot the ball. We still need to clean up the bad turnovers (15). We also need to do a better job of blocking out as we gave up 16 offensive rebounds,?Äù said Coach Jay Klein. Cubs?Äô Scoring: Darius Westrich 23; Del Guerrero 14; Hayden Gagnon 7; Drew Gustafson 13; Noah Jurek 1; Michael Hoffman 11; Riley Miller 2.

(Howard Lake Game) The Cubs took an early 13-4 lead, and their defense limited the Lakers to one shot each trip down the floor. Offensively, Kimball was a little careless with the ball, committing 11 turnovers. The Cubs led at the half by 12 (27-15). The game slowed down in the second half because of the Laker?Äôs (2-3) zone defense.

?ÄúHunter Ahlrich gave us a great lift off the bench, hitting a couple of threes for us. I was very happy with our defensive effort. We did not give them many open looks and we rebounded very well,?Äù said Coach Klein. Cubs?Äô Scoring: Darius Westrich 5; Hunter Ahlrich 6; Del Guerrero 11; Hayden Gagnon 6; Drew Gustafson 15; Weston Hine 4; Michael Hoffman 4.
