Kimball Cubs eighth-grade baseball opens year 1-2

The Cubs started the year off with a home game Friday, April 11, where they matched up against neighboring Eden Valley-Watkins Eagles.

Michael Hoffmann looked sharp on the mound for the cubs. EV-W managed just one hit off of Hoffmann, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out three during his two innings of work.

Matt S., Jake and Bradley helped lead Eden Valley-Watkins. They combined for six hits and five RBIs.

Mitchell Jansky was the game?Äôs losing pitcher for the Cubs. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out one, and allowed three runs.

EV-W stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring three runs on two singles.

The fourth inning saw the Cubs score their only run on the day on an RBI single by Hoffmann.

EV-W increased its lead with two runs in the fifth. The inning got off to a hot start when Matt S. homered. That was followed up by Andrew?Äôs single, plating Jake.

EV-W piled on four more runs in the top of the sixth. Bradley kicked things off with a single, scoring Tyler. That was followed up by Matt S.?Äô single, plating Deshaun. In the end, the Eagles take the win 9-1 in the season opener.

Michael Hoffmann?Äôs effort not enough in the Cubs?Äô 6-5 loss in Rockford.

Not even a strong hitting and pitching performance from Michael Hoffmann could carry the Cubs past the Rockford Rockets at Rockford on Monday, April 21, as the Cubs suffered a 6-5 defeat.

Hoffmann had a solid game for the Cubs. Michael went 1-1, drove in one and scored one run. He tripled in the first inning.

Hoffmann also looked sharp on the rubber. Rockford managed just one hit off of Hoffmann, who allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out four during his two innings of work.

#33 for the Rockets got it done on the hill on the way to a win. He tossed two innings of shutout ball. He struck out four, walked none and surrendered no hits.

Hoffmann was the game?Äôs losing pitcher despite a strong performance.

The Cubs jumped out to an early 5-0 lead in the top of the first. After Michael Binsfeld singled followed by a Hoffmann triple, scoring Binsfeld. The Cubs added more runs when Hoffmann scored on an RBI single by Kade Redmann, Redmann scored on an RBI single by Grant Garding, and Serbus and Garding scored on a two-run single by Nick Gustafson.

It didn?Äôt take long for Rockford to respond as it scored five runs of its own in the first. Rockford scored on an RBI single by #12, a two-run single by #11, a groundout by #33, and an RBI single by #17.

Rockford never surrendered the lead after the third inning, scoring one run on a past ball in the final inning of play.

The Cubs cruised past Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, 10-4.

The Cubs pounded Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted on Tuesday, April 22, 10-4 at Kimball in six innings.

The Cubs scored five runs in the second inning on an error, a two-run home run by Braden Hilary, an RBI single by Aaron Serbus, and an RBI single by Cole Hilsgen.

Aaron Serbus racked up two RBIs on two hits for the Cubs.

Nick Gustafson?Äôs nine strikeouts helped the Cubs to the victory. Nick allowed no earned runs on three hits and no walks over four innings.

Number 3 took the loss for Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted. He allowed six runs in 3 1/3 innings, walked one and struck out nine.
