It’s a new venture for Coborn’s, Inc. – and somewhat of an experiment. But Kimball will soon see a grocery store in town again. Very soon.
You won’t be able to go in and browse, chat with neighbors, and leisurely shop for good deals. Instead, you can order your groceries (and even liquor) online – from among 30,000 possible items – by 1:00 p.m. and pick them up later in the day, or the next morning if you prefer. The Kimball store (to be located inside the former Gohmann’s Foods building) will be a pick-up site for Cash Wise Food and Liquor delivery service. Cash Wise is owned by St. Cloud-based Coborn’s, Inc.
Orders can be placed online at shop.Cashwise.com. You can go there now to see what’s available: fresh produce, baked goods, meat and poultry, staples, cleaning products, and even liquor; everything available in the Waite Park Cash Wise store. The items you select are coming from one of the largest of Coborn’s/Cash Wise’s 60 stores. You’ll be able to order for Kimball delivery once that portion of the service goes live by selecting “Kimball” from the list of stores available on the website’s main menu. If you don’t have access to a computer (or tablet or phone), there will be a kiosk inside the former Gohmann’s building in Kimball where you can use it as you would a computer, during pickup hours only. Again, order by 1:00 p.m. and it will be delivered to the Kimball Cash Wise pick-up site by 4:00 p.m. that same day. 
Another option for ordering is to order by phone. A friendly voice will talk you through options available, and help you find just what you need. (That same friendly person may well be the same personal shopper who will pick your groceries for delivery.) Your preferences will be noted to make it even easier the next time you call in an order.
Shoppers will have access to the same daily and weekly deals and bargains as all other Cash Wise stores. The retail prices shown online will be the same as if you shopped inside the physical store. There is a $6.99 convenience fee for each delivery order which covers the personal shopper’s time and delivery to the Kimball pick-up site. There are no other fees or hidden charges.
Orders will be delivered in time for same-day pick-up daily between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. They will be staged in coolers and freezers for temperature control and on shelves inside the building. When you arrive, you’ll be met at the door and your order placed into your vehicle.
Morning pick-up times will also be available from 10:00 a.m. – noon on Mondays-Saturdays, and from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Sundays. Place your online order by 9:00 p.m. and your order will be delivered by 10:00 a.m. to the pick-up store the next morning and by 11:00 a.m. on Sundays.
Banners and signs may go up on the building this week. The goal is to have the delivery service fully functional on Wednesday, May 26, but there are many critical pieces that all need to come together before then. For certain, you’ll be able to order and pick up fresh groceries over the summer.
The success of this “experiment” with the Kimball delivery/pick-up site will determine whether this business model will be repeated at other locations, in other small towns. The measure of success: people need to utilize the service. Coborn’s has a six-month lease on the building. They will put together the system to bring fresh groceries to Kimball on a daily basis. It’s up to all of us to use it in order to keep it here.
