The Lady Cubs defeated Pierz last Tuesday, Jan. 3, by a 49-32 final score. Kimball had a tough time taking care of the basketball and limiting turnovers against an aggressive, scrappy Pioneers team. The first half ended with Kimball holding a narrow 18-16 lead. The Cubs?Äô defense kept the Pioneers at bay, and Kimball increased its lead in the second half. Kimball converted 19 of 33 free throws, which helped tremendously in putting away Pierz. Abbey Schiefelbein played solid defense and helped in holding Pierz?Äôs leading scorer to just six points, well below her season average of 17 ppg. Madison Hurrle led all scorers with 21 points and also finished with 11 rebounds and four steals.
?ÄúWe saw a lot of ball pressure and really a lot of effort from our opponent tonight, and it?Äôs obvious that we need to make better decisions with the basketball under these conditions. On the positive side, we played solid defense, we did make better decisions in the second half, and were able to win without playing or shooting well in a conference game on the road,?Äù said Coach Jeremy Kuechle. Cubs?Äô Scoring: Kenzie Leither 3; Madison Hurrle 21; Ashley Schindele 7; Katie Merchant 6; Caitlin O?ÄôBrien 9; Katelynn Loehrer 1; Erin
O?ÄôBrien 2.
