The Lady Cubs were tenacious on the courts last week, opening the promising season with an undefeated record. On Tuesday, Nov. 29, Kimball defeated Royalton 58-27. Royalton took an early 7-1 lead in the game?Äôs first five minutes, but the Cubs turned up the pressure and began creating some offense with their defense. By half, the score was 27-13, thanks to a 26-6 run by Kimball. The Cubs also forced Royalton into 31 turnovers.
?ÄúIt was exciting to get back into game action. I think we were a little tense at first, wanting to do too much. Once we relaxed and focused on our jobs and responsibilities, things started to click and we played really well,?Äù said Coach Jeremy Kuechle. Cubs?Äô Scoring: Kenzie Leither 9; Madison Hurrle 16; Ashley Schindele 9; Alexa Ruehle 3; Katie Merchant 5; Kira Schaefer 6; Caitlin O?ÄôBrien 2; Erin O?ÄôBrien 8.
Kimball welcomed in Dec. 1, with a convincing Thursday night victory over St. John?Äôs Prep, 66-26. The Lady Cubs charged out of the gate, posting a 14-0 run, en route to a 45-11 halftime advantage. Ashley Schindele busted the Johnnies?Äô 2-3 zones by connecting on 5 of 9 three-pointers, all in the first half, and led all scorers with 19. Kenzie Leither finished with double digits as well, scoring 10 points on the night. Madison Hurrle and Abbey Schiefelbein led the defense with a pair of steals each.
?ÄúTonight we had to stay focused on ball movement against their 2-3 zones. We wanted to make the extra pass and find the open shooter. We also had to focus on playing our game, execution, and trying to improve on our offense and defense, despite what the scoreboard read,?Äù Coach Kuechle said. Cubs?Äô Scoring: Rachel Merten 2; Kenzie Leither 10; Madison Hurrle 6; Rachel Utecht 5; Ashley Schindele 19; Alexa Ruehle 5; Krista Loch 4; Katie Merchant 6; Caitlin O?ÄôBrien 4; Erin O?ÄôBrien 3; Julia Zipoy 2.
Putting a cap on a very successful week, the Cubs rolled over Upsala on Friday, 72-46.
The contest started with leads changing hands early. With the score 18-18 and just over 9 minutes remaining in the first half, Kimball went on a 22-5 run to take a demanding 40-23 lead into the locker room.
?ÄúWe did a good job taking away what Upsala wanted to do tonight, and we defended their best player very well ?Äì Kudos to Kenzie Leither and Abbey Schiefelbein, holding her to just five points,?Äù said Coach Kuechle. Cubs?Äô Scoring: Kenzie Leither 11; Madison Hurrle 11; Ashley Schindele 24; Alexa Ruehle 4; Katie Merchant 9; Erin
