The Kimball softball team escaped with a 2-1 victory over Central Minnesota Conference rival Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted last Monday, April 24. Howard Lake plated a run in the first inning, but Kimball came back to take the lead on a 2-run home run by Emily Utecht. The Cubs had several opportunities to score, but were unable to muster any more runs. Katie Merchant was sharp, keeping the HL-W-W batters at bay the rest of the game.
Kimball Highlights: Mackenzie Leither 3 for 4, run scored; Tori Harren 2 for 3, SB; Rachel Utecht, Katie Merchant, Kari Schiefelbein, Stephanie Hurrle, and Emily Utecht (a 2-run HR) each had one hit. Pitching: Katie Merchant pitched 7 innings; faced 25 batters, allowed 2 hits, struck out 8, walked 1, and hit 2. She gave up just one earned run and is credited with the win.
