Kimball girls?Äô sparkling season fizzles fast

The Cubs met Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa last Tuesday, March 7, in the Sub-section 5A finals at Melrose. Successfully avenging an earlier loss to Kimball during the regular season, the Jaguars came away with a 49-43 victory. B-B-E jumped out 6-0 on a pair of three pointers, and the Cubs answered by tying the game at 10 with 11 minutes
left in the first half. The Jags then made a run to finish the first half and take a 27-16 lead. The Cubs slowly battled back and closed the lead to 39-36 with just more than six minutes to play, but Kimball was unable to take care of the ball and costly turnovers would haunt. After some critical shots went ?Äúin and out?Äù down the stretch, the Cubs found themselves trailing 46-41 with 26 seconds left and were forced to foul. B-B-E did what they needed to do and closed out the game with a six-point edge. Key statistics: Kimball, 18 turnovers and B-B-E, 10; Three-point shooting: Kimball, 1-10 and B-B-E, 4-9; Two-point shooting: Kimball, 15-34 and B-B-E, 14-37; Free Throw line: Kimball, 10-18 and BBE, 9-20; Kimball out-rebounded BBE, 31-22.

?ÄúI think as a team we know we didn?Äôt play our best game tonight. It?Äôs hard to lose a game ?Ķ especially this game, against a good opponent, but a team you know you can beat. Despite the loss, I am still thankful for the great season and the effort the girls put forth. They are a great bunch,?Äù said Coach Jeremy Kuechle. Cubs?Äô Scoring:  Kenzie Leither 3; Madison Hurrle 8; Ashley Schindele 5; Katie Merchant 8; Caitlin O?ÄôBrien 11; Erin O?ÄôBrien 8. Kimball finishes the season as Sub-Section 5A Runners Up, CMC Conference second place, and an overall 23-6 final record, tied for the most wins in school history.
