Cubs at Swanville
The JV Cubs were at Swanville Tuesday, Jan. 24, to take on the Bulldogs. The Cubs fell behind early as they came out slow and sluggish. The cubs were not able to turn it around as they went into half, down 30-20. In the second half the Cubs were able to turn it around and get the ball inside. The Cubs were able to score along with rebounding offensively and defensively. Late in the game, the Cubs pressure was finally too much for the Bulldogs to handle. The Cubs were able to force some turnovers that helped bring them back. However, the Cubs late run came just a little too late. Riley Miller connected and 1 lay up to bring them within 1 with 3 seconds left, but that?Äôs as close as the Cubs could get. Their half-court shoot at the buzzer fell short and the Cubs fell 54-57. The Cubs had plenty of rebounding with Noah Jurek with 10, Riley Miller with 9 and Zach Streit with 6. The Cubs saw 8 different players score. Kimball Cubs at Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted Lakers
Thursday, Jan. 26, the Cubs traveled to Howard Lake to take on the Lakers. The Cubs had a tight game against the Lakers and that started in the first half. The Cubs saw five different players get in the scoring column in the first half that helped keep the game tight as the Cubs went into the half, down 19-21. The second half, the Cubs turnovers started to show as the Lakers were able to pull away from the Cubs. The Lakers had a 10-point lead late in the game, but with three straight steals converted into lay ups by Noah Jurek, Chase Gustafson and Thomas Pearson, the Cubs got the lead down to 4 points. That?Äôs as close as the Cubs could get it before the final buzzer as they fell 34-38. The Cubs had their best free-throw percentage game of the season as they were 5 for 6 from the line as Riley Miller was 3 of 4 and Jevonte Victor was 2 for 2.
