Kimball JV softball results

After 17 games, the Kimball JV Softball team has a record of 9-8. Another four-game week began with a road trip to Pierz. The Cubs got an early lead of 12-1. However, the determined Pioneers chipped away at that lead and eventually tied the Cubs 12-12. Going into the bottom of the sixth inning, Kimball was ahead 14-16. With one out, Pierz scored a run, bringing the score to 15-16, with two runners on base. A botched steal led to out number two with the tying run racing toward home plate. Keeping their cool, the Cubs got the ball home and tagged the runner for out number three. The exciting end to the game showed the continued progress and growth of this team. Batting three-for-fourth on the game were Kendra Albers, Kelsey Vigoren, and Beth Libbesmeier. Cassandra Loch, Tesslynn Callander, Amy Massmann, and Julie Lochen each had two hits during the game. Again, nearly every player in the game scored at least one run, making it a complete team effort. The Cubs continued their winning streak on Tuesday at home against B-B-E. Pitching duties for the game were handled by Kendra Albers and Tesslynn Callander. Offensively, the Cubs were led by Kelsey Vigoren, who batted 2-for-2, with four stolen bases and three runs scored. Cassandra Loch crossed home twice, with two stolen bases, and Tesslynn Callander hit her fourth home run of the year. The Cubs saw another high scoring game against Rockford, losing 12-19. The team was not able to generate many hits, but scored six runs on walks. Tesslynn Callander batted three-for-three on the day with her fifth home run of the year, and scored three runs. Cassandra Loch scored three times with five stolen bases. Another of the season’s highlights came on Friday. The Cubs again played host to Holdingford after being rained out the previous Friday. The Cubs lost to Holdingford 6-11 earlier in the year, but won 6-4 this time around, giving the Huskers their second loss of the season. Tough defense and smart plays can take credit for this win. The Cubs held Holdingford to only three batters in both the first and last innings. Cassandra Loch batted 3-for-3 during the game, and scored two runs. Tesslynn Callander scored a run, had a hit, and an RBI. Kelsey Vigoren was hit by a pitch but moved around the bases, eventually stealing home. Melissa Konz got a hit and stole home, and Amy Massmann was walked but was also able to score. The team has just one game left for season, this time on Thursday at Waverly. It will be a fun way to wrap up the season, with HL-W-W hosting a barbeque. The JV game will be played at 5 p.m., and the varsity game will follow, to be played under the lights. Thank you for supporting the Cubs. Kelly Sawatzke JV Softball coach
