Kimball Legion had a busy May

·

The Kimball Legion recognized World War II veterans and their spouses Saturday, May 29. The Legion served 39 free breakfasts, and Ashley Baumann presented each couple with special gifts provided by the Legion Post. Cards were created by the Junior Auxiliary and were given to each veteran. Pictures are on display at the Legion Post. Speakers included Commander Michael Olk, Adjutant Roland Schmidt, Sergeant at Arms Bert Dibley, Auxiliary President Abby Schmidt and Sons of the American Legion Commander Dylan Kaskinen. The Legion also helped prepare for the annual Becker Bike Run which begins and ends at the Legion Post. Although the weather wasn’t the greatest for the event, there was still a good turnout. Pictures from the Becker Bike Run are also on display at the Legion Post. The Legion also hosted Memorial Day services at the Kimball Elementary School. The Girl Scouts marched with the Legion and put up display flags on the parade route to the school. Tiffany Mehrhoff recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and Pastor Heather E. Klason gave the invocation and benediction. Speakers at the event included Girls’ and Boys’ State representatives Casey Williams and Cole Loewen, and Auxiliary President Abby Schmidt. The Auxiliary and Junior Auxiliary conducted the folding of the flag. Kimball Area High School students Aaron Lahr and John Hanley played “Taps” at the ceremony. Jerry Meyers helped prepare the school for the event, and Chris Jeppesen printed the programs. The Legion Post Color Guard also helped to make the event successful. Submitted by Michael E.
