The Kimball American Legion Post 261, the Kimball American Legion Auxiliary and Junior Auxiliary and Sons of the American Legion held a Memorial Service at 10 a.m. Monday, May 29, at the Kimball Elementary School.
Members marched from the Kimball Legion Club to the elementary school. The flag was raised and some members of the Kimball Area High School Band, along with their band director Tim Rahkola, played the ?ÄúStar Spangled Banner.?Äù
Everyone then moved inside for the program. Commander Jim Herda welcomed everyone and introduced Chaplain Ray Wells who said a prayer. President Colette VanVleet welcomed everyone and then the American Legion Auxiliary and the S.A.L. performed the flag folding ceremony for all those present. Next on the program, everyone sang ?ÄúGod Bless America.?Äù President Colette then introduced Kaylee Hechtel, last year?Äôs Girls State representative. Kaylee spoke on what Memorial Day means to her. When Kaylee was finished speaking, everyone sang ?ÄúAmerica.?Äù
The American Legion Auxiliary then performed the P.O.W./M.I.A. table set for one. The Auxiliary then placed a large poppy for each branch of the military. The band then played each military song to honor each branch of the service. Benediction was then read and everyone went outside for the 21 gun salute and taps. Everyone was invited to the Kimball Legion Club for a potluck lunch.
