The city of Kimball met with representatives of Maine Prairie Township Tuesday, Oct. 2, before their regular meeting. The two bodies agreed to split the cost of paving 83rd Avenue between
Co. Rd. 44 and 135th Street, and overlaying 135th Street. The city’s portion would be about $56,336.
Both parties will continue to work on extending 93rd Street to Elm St.. There are state bonds available for this.
Police chief Jason Mehr was given approval to patrol the area around the golf course because of increased activity there. Mehr reported that toilet paper confiscated during Homecoming will be donated to the food shelf.
Matt Serbus in public works was authorized to have trees trimmed in town, with a cost not to exceed $3,000.
The council unanimously approved a lease agreement with Verizon Wireless for $1,775.66/month, to increase from 2-4 percent each year.
The council moved to give 14-day notice to Shirley Slater-Schulte who has been interim city clerk since Nicole Pilarski left to take the clerk job in Eden Valley. The council had met Oct. 1 in a special meeting to interview a candidate after which they voted 3-2 to hire back Pilarski. (Voting for were DuWayne Orbeck, Tammy Konz, and Sheryl Carlson; voting against were Aaron Dahlinger and Megan Kiffmeyer.) Pilarski was called that night after the meeting, and she was back at her desk in Kimball the next morning.
The next regular meeting of the Kimball city council was Monday, Oct. 15. The next meeting after that will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 13.
