REGULAR MEETING
Board of Education
March 15, 2023
Ind. School District 739, Kimball, Minn.
Chair K. Helgeson opened the meeting at 6 p.m. with members E. Helgeson, Gallagher, Mahlum, Lindberg, and Libbesmeier in attendance. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.
Motion by Mahlum, seconded by Lindberg, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried, 6-0.
Motion by Gallagher, seconded by Libbesmeier, to approve the Consent Agenda. Motion carried, 6-0. The Consent Agenda included:
- Approve minutes from the February 15, 2023, Regular meeting.
- Approval of Bills.
- Treasurer’s Report.
- Rescind approval of reinvestment of $237,000 CD for 365 days, at 4.9%, at Financial Federal Savings Bank, Memphis, TN, maturing February 6, 2024, at February 15, meeting.
- Approve reinvestment of $237,000 CD for 365 days, at 5.05%, at Bank of China, New York, NY, maturing March 1, 2024.
- Accept resignation for the purpose of retiring received from Denise Nusbaum, elementary teacher, effective May 26, 2023.
- Approve spring coaching assignments: Golf – Assistant, Leah Merten, JV Baseball, Noah Young.
- Resolution Accepting Donations
Mrs. Bonnifield reported the following:
- Registration went well. High numbers in the new classes offered. 4 registered for the CNA class.
- Job shadowing next week. Every career sector you can imagine is represented. Local and state-wide. Really neat that our kids get to do this activity.
- March 29 we’re hosting a youth speaker, Terrence Lee Talley, with a band. Paid for by the Blatner Energy Foundation which dedicated money to youth mental health in Central Minnesota.
- White Out to Erase Bullying next week. Each day will have student voices giving information about bullying. On Thursday, some students will be wearing all white to represent youth suicide numbers. Organized by a student organization. Advisor is Justin Frerich.
- This Friday we’ll have a drug presentation. Organized by Officer Theisen, we will host two officers from the Stearns County Drug Task Force. Emphasis at the H.S. level will be on fentanyl.
- March 24 is a Prof. Dev. day and we’ll focus heavily on Special Education. Director Erin Dohrmann will be hosting a Q&A about SpEd law, our social worker will be reviewing PASS data with the staff, and we’ll be taking de-escalation training.
Mr. Timmerman reported the following:
- Field trips are beginning:
K – May 22 – Zoo
1st – March 14th – Tubing, April 26, – Wheel and Cog
2nd – April 18th – Science Museum
3rd – April 26th – Minnesota Zoo
4th – May 12th – Environmental Center in Spicer
5th – May 11-12 – Iron Range
- Food Drive – total of 3,105 items.
Top class was Ali Miller with over 670 items – Moonlight bowling at school.
- Friday, March 17th students will duct-tape Mr. Timmerman to the gym wall. Incentive for accomplishing reading goals.
- Beginning of MCA testing in April:
April 3-7 will be 3rd-, 4th- and 5th-grade reading.
April 10-14 will be 5th-grade science.
April 17-21 will be 3rd-, 4th- and 5th-grade math.
- Looking at MDE grants for summer camps and activities. New guidelines this year.
Mr. Widvey reported the following:
- Construction Update.
- Hendricks Land for Sale.
- March 24 Negotiations Training.
- March 21 Work Session.
Motion by Gallagher, seconded by Mahlum, to Adopt Resolution Adopting the Stearns County All-Hazard Mitigation Plan. Motion carried, 6-0.
Motion by E. Helgeson, seconded by Libbesmeier, to Adopt Resolution Relating to the Termination and Nonrenewal of a Probationary Teacher. Motion carried, 6-0.
Motion by Lindberg, seconded by E. Helgeson, to approve request for early dismissal for senior class. Motion carried, 6-0.
