Chair K. Helgeson opened the meeting at 6 p.m. with members E. Helgeson, Gallagher, Mahlum, Lindberg, and Libbesmeier in attendance. Chair K. Helgeson was participating remotely. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all.
Motion by Mahlum, seconded by E. Helgeson, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carried via roll-call vote 6-0.
Motion by Gallagher, seconded by Lindberg, to approve the Consent Agenda. Motion carried via roll-call vote 6-0. The Consent Agenda included:
- Approve minutes from the Jan. 18, 2023, Regular meeting.
- Approval of Bills.
- Treasurer’s Report.
- Approve reinvestment of $237,000 CD for 365 days, at 4.9%, at Financial Federal Savings Bank, Memphis, TN, maturing Feb. 6, 2024.
- Approve hiring Tila Darling, part-time elementary custodian, starting Jan. 23, 2023, at Category II, Step 6 of the Non-Licensed Agreement.
- Approve hiring Kylie -Carlson, elementary paraprofessional, at
Category III, Step 4 of the ESP Agreement, starting Feb. 21, 2023. - Accept resignation received from Brianna Arns, elementary teacher, effective May 26, 2023.
- Accept Agreement Related to Employment of a Teacher.
- Approve spring coaching assignments: Baseball – Head – Adam Beyer, 9th – Jordan Schleper, 7th – Jay Klein; Softball – Head – Emily Greniger, Assistant – Mollie Scheiber, 9th – Megan Taylor, 9th – Ashley Eisenbraun, 7th – Abby Meyer; Track – Assistant – Chris Rossman, JH – Adam Tri and Ryan Tri; Golf – Head – Zach Boser; Head Boys’ Track – Jason Mortenson, Head Girls’ Track – Tyler Warren – both paid by EV-W.
Mrs. Bonnifield reported the following:
- She reported on the role of a School Resource Officer which includes mentorship, education, and law enforcement. Officer -Theisen was recognized in school today as today is SRO Appreciation Day.
- The HS recently completed an attendance challenge and saw an overall increase in attendance and a decrease in tardiness.
- The A-Honor Roll Breakfast is on Feb 16. We have 98 A-Honor Roll students and 111 B-Honor Roll students for Semester 1.
- The course registration guide was reviewed which included information about new courses and a change to the science program due to the new science standards.
- She thanked the school board for supporting her professional development by allowing her to attend the winter Principal’s conference. She also thanked the winter activity and athletic coaches for a great winter season.
Mr. Timmerman reported the following:
- The 1 school 1 book program is going very well. The elementary is reading Charlotte’s Web as a school, and every child has received a hardcover copy.
- Kindergarten registration was on Monday, Feb. 13, with approx. 40 students for the ’23-24 school year.
- Conferences went very well along with the book fair.
- Presentation of the Achievement and Integration Grant.
Mr. Widvey reported the following:
- Construction Update.
- Feb. 22 Work Session: 6 p.m. in Board Room.
- Board Officer Training: Thank you: Feb. 1 and 8.
- MSBA Negotiations Training: Feb. 24: St. Cloud Holiday Inn.
- School Board Appreciation: Thank you for your service.
- Resource Training and Solutions Board Vote.
- Food Service Bid Process.
Motion by Gallagher, seconded by Libbesmeier, to approve the 2023-2024 High School Course Catalog. Motion carried via roll-call vote 6-0.
Motion by Mahlum, seconded by E. Helgeson, to approve Achievement and Integration Plan for FY24-FY26. Motion carried via roll-call vote 6-0.
Motion by Gallagher, seconded by Libbesmeier, to approve Achievement and Integration budget for FY24. Motion carried via roll-call vote 6-0.
Motion by Lindberg, seconded by Mahlum, to approve 2023-2024 school calendar. Motion carried via roll-call vote 6-0.
Next meeting dates: Benton Stearns Education District Board Meeting: 3/15; School Board Meeting: 3/15 at 6 p.m.
