The Lady Cubs enjoyed a great opening week to the season. Thursday and Friday, April 6 and 7, Kimball defeated Royalton, 17-0, and outlasted ACGC, 7-6.
(Royalton Game) Kimball?Äôs bats were on fire as eight different players recorded hits. Kimball had a 12-run third inning that put the nail in the coffin for Royalton. Highlights: Mackenzie Leither, 3 for 3, 3 runs scored, 2 doubles, 1 home run (two-run shot) 3 RBI, 1 BB; Emily Utecht, 3 for 3, 2 runs scored, 1 double, 1 home run, 3 RBI, 1 BB; Katie Spaulding, 2 for 3, 2 runs scored; Rachel Utecht, 2 for 3, 3 runs scored, 1 RBI; Alexa Ruehle, Stephanie Hurrle, Torrie Harren, and Katie Merchant all had 1 hit. Emily Utecht pitched and recorded the win, going four innings, facing 14 batters, giving up no runs, allowing 2 hits, striking out 3, and walking no one.
(ACGC Game) Wind was a factor in the ACGC game, as the Cubs had several long fly balls that were held up, which allowed the Falcon outfielders to make beautiful plays. Kimball jumped out to a 5-0 lead early, but ACGC fought back to tie the game in the 5th inning and again in the 7th inning; to send the game into extra innings. Mackenzie Leither homered for the second time in the game, but this time it was a walk-off winner in the eighth inning. Highlights: Mackenzie Leither, 3 for 5, 3 runs scored, 1 double, 2 HR, (1 solo, 1 two-run shot), 3 RBIs; Emily Utecht, 3 for 5, 1 RBI; Katie Merchant, 2 for 3; Kari Schiefelbein, Rachel Utecht, and Torrie Harren, each recorded 1 hit. Katie Merchant pitched 4 innings, faced 21 batters, allowed 5 runs (1 earned), gave up 4 hits, struck out 7, and walked 3; Emily Utecht pitched 4 innings, faced 15 batters, allowed 1 run (1 earned), surrendered 2 hits, struck out 4, and allowed one walk. She was credited with the win.
