Kimball superintendent update, 6-25-15

·

Good day, Kimball. It is hard to believe that the summer is a third over already.

This week I will talk about the next 3 questions from the ?ÄúWorld?Äôs Best Workforce Survey.?Äù The next question on the list stated, ?ÄúI feel that Kimball Schools provides a positive atmosphere which supports high achievement.?Äù I like this question because it gives me some data on how parents/guardians feel their children are performing when it comes to acquiring knowledge.

For this question 68 percent agreed with the question, 12 percent disagreed and 20 percent had no opinion. As a district I got together with the administration and discussed the schools class offerings and how they promote high achievement.  We also included some staff members to look at the schools?Äô course offerings to see what promotes a higher level of achievement? Through those discussions, the district is changing the Language Arts/English curriculum to match closer to the state?Äôs standards, we are offering more college classes in the school and Advance Placement classes, as well as looking at more trade-type classes for students looking to go into the workforce right out of high school. These additions put Kimball in line to offer over 40 college credits to students still in the public school system which is as many as any school district in the area.

The next question of focus was, ?ÄúI am satisfied with my child?Äôs education at Kimball Elementary.?Äù 68 percent agreed with the statement, 14 percent disagreed, and 18 percent had no opinion. The elementary building got together and discussed the results from the survey due to the fact they are very proud that the building has been a reward school for two years in a row. A ?Äúreward school?Äù for those not familiar with that rating is a designation from the Minnesota Department of Education based on the test scores and performance of the school. A ?Äúreward?Äù rating is the highest rating an elementary school can get in the state. Only 15 percent of schools in the state of Minnesota received that rating. The staff is extremely proud to have that rating but understand that we can?Äôt rest on it. They know and understand that they have to do everything possible to stay on top and challenge the students. So they are hoping with the changes they are making with the curriculum and changes in the building, the parents and community become more satisfied with the instruction they provide to the students of the community.

The last statement for today from the survey is, ?ÄúI am satisfied with my child?Äôs education at Kimball Area High School.?Äù 70  percent agreed with the statement, 11 percent disagreed, and 19 percent had no opinion. The high school, like the elementary, takes a lot of pride in providing the best instruction and programs possible. The high school has looked at their course offerings and is looking to add classes that increase the rigor level for the students as well as the variety of courses that students can elect to take. The high school staff understands that they want students to have as many chances as possible to have exposure to all kinds of different courses so students feel ready and prepared for the next level after high school. Both buildings take a tremendous amount of pride in doing the best they can to provide for the students.

Well, that is all for this week. Have a great weekend and look for more next week. Take care and be safe.

Go Cubs!
