The Kimball volleyball squad competed in the six-team Sauk Rapids-Rice tournament Saturday, Oct. 10. The Lady Cubs took fourth, and all-in-all played a very good tournament. Looking awesome in their win over Minneapolis Patrick Henry, 25-7, 25-9, Kimball unfortunately lost some close matches the rest of the day. The Cubs dropped the next match to a tough Cloquet squad, 22-25, and 22-25.
?ÄúIn bracketed play, we had to play the winner of pool B Sauk Rapids-Rice and lost 21-25 and 16-25. We played for third place in the last round against Pequot Lakes and lost 21-25 and 16-25,?Äù said Coach Tabitha Mortenson.
Tournament highlights include Stephanie Hurrle with 9 ace serves; Madison Hurrle with 27 kills; Kenzie Leither with 13 kills; Madison Hurrle with 8.5 total blocks and Caitlin O?ÄôBrien with 6 total blocks. Becky Holtz had 39 set assists and Steph Hurrle added 24 set assists of her own, while Kari Schiefelbein managed 19 digs.
The Cubs play their last conference match against Paynesville at home Tuesday, Oct. 13; followed by a non-conference battle with Norwood-Young America in the friendly confines Monday, Oct. 19.
