Kimball wrestlers lose in first round of sections

By Frank Schiefelbein, CoachKimball wrestlers went down to Norwood to take on the Raiders in the first round of the sections. The Raiders proved to be too much for the Cubs as they beat them 38-22. Norwood started off quick with a pin at 103 and a major decision at 112. Kimball picked up a pin at 119 from Blaine Lemke, followed by a win at 125 from Gary Salmela and another pin at 130 by Andy Knaus. The Cubs then gave up a pin and a major decision at 135 and 140. Jeremy Dahnke (145) came right back with a win, but the Cubs once again gave up a win and pin at 152 and 160 before Tom Libbesmeier majored his opponent at 171 to finish the scoring. Kyle Winter wrestled very well at 189 against Norwood’s best wrestler, who was undefeated at 30-0, but came up short with a 10-5 decision. Norwood went on to beat Meadow Creek Alliance and Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City to represent Section 5A in the state tournament. The Cubs had a very good year finishing with a 12-11 record in dual meets with seven new wrestlers in the lineup.

The wrestlers will now compete in the Section 5A Individual Tournament to see which wrestlers will make it to the state tournament. Wrestling starts at 5 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 22, at Howard Lake. The Semi-Finals will start at noon on Saturday.
