Kimball wrestlers win Royalton Invitational

·

Kimball wrestlers had a long but productive day Saturday, Jan. 3.   The team topped the 20th Annual Royalton Invitational. The wrestlers worked hard during Christmas vacation and it showed; 12 wrestlers scored points and 11 placed. The key to winning the tournament was Kimball’s 19 pins. The Cubs had four wrestlers in the finals and one champion – Jeremy Dahnke (152).   Taking second were Erich Deutsch (135), Dan Barthel (140) and Brandon Hurrle (215). Placing third were Jacob Kieke (103), with four pins, and Gary Salmela (125). John Hanley (160) and heavyweight Peter Jonas earned fourth place, Chris Barthel (145) took fifth, and Ryan Nutter (189) took sixth. The grapplers were very aggressive and intense throughout the day and wrestled the best they have all year. The Cubs picked up any team points they could in the matches. The team faces Holdingford at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8. The Cubs host the Kimball Duals Saturday, Jan. 10, with JV starting at 10 a.m. and varsity will follow at 11 a.m. The wrestlers and coaches would like to thank all the wrestling alumni that came in over Christmas break to practice.
