Cubs take on Eagles The Kimball wrestling team headed west to their rival Eden Valley-Watkins for their annual CMC clash. The Cubs were started off by Travis Schiefelbein at 112-pounds, with a pin in the first period. At 130 pounds, junior Derek Orbeck came from behind to pin his Eagle opponent, who had beaten earlier this season. Orbeck was trailing by six points at the time. Luke Schiefelbein also picked up a win in the 160-pound weight class with a 6-4 win. After Anthony Laabs picked up a forfeit at 189-pounds, the night was capped off with sophomore Josh Almgren, who picked up a pin at 215. The JV was led by Mitch Pramann, who picked up two wins, one by pin and the other by an 11-9 decision. Eighth-grader Brandon Doege picked up pin early in the first period. Kimball Duals The Kimball wrestlers got a lot of matches as they hosted the Kimball Duals. The day was led off by Tyler Kuechle at 103 pounds with a pin. Following that match was seventh-grader Travis Schiefelbein at 112 pounds, picking up another pin. Alex Thurber got his first pin of his career as he came from a 7-point deficit to pin his opponent with 13 seconds left in the match. Mitch Pramann racked up a win with a 7-1 score at 125 pounds. Junior Ronnie Antiel put together his best day of his wrestling career going 3-0 on the day. Ronnie had two overtime wins and a 9-0 major decision. Derek Orbeck picked up yet another pin at 135 pounds. Justin Ring picked up his first wins on varsity – one by a 13-5 major decision, and the other by a forfeit. Nick Donnay went 2-1 on the day with a 9-8 decision, followed by a first period pin at 152 pounds. Luke Schiefelbein got a 13-8 win after bumping up to the 171-pound weight class. Anthony Laabs got his first varsity pin at the 189-pound weight class. Heavyweight Mitch Fischer was the second cub to go 3-0 on the day with two pins and a forfeit. The Cubs had three dual meets and managed to win the second one. Also the JV participated but in an individual tournament. They were led by senior Steve Golla, who won both of his matches and was the lone Cub to take home first place honors. Also getting wins on the JV were seventh-grader Jesse Hedlund, who picked up his first win of his career by score of 12-0.
