Kingston Auxiliary Legion November update

·

Kingston American Legion Auxiliary volunteers attended the annual Veterans Day program at the St. Cloud Vietnam Medical Center, Nov. 11, 2003. The Veterans’ Day ceremony was held at 1:30 in Building 8 auditorium. The event was well attended by veterans’ families and visitors. Veterans were assisted by volunteers. The Metro Vets Organization presented and posted the colors. Invocation was by Chaplain Alfred Strangle. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all present. The North Jr. High choir led in singing the National Anthem. Welcome was given by Ressa Hesso, Ph.D. Nurse Exc. VAMC. There was a tribute to all branches of the service. The Veterans’ Day message was given by Lt. Col. Richard Weaner, Commander of Camp Ripley. He told the audience it is critical for them to remember. The price we have paid in lost years, lives, blood, sweat and tears must never be forgotten. With 130,000 U.S. soldiers facing dangerous conditions in Iraq, Veterans’ Day this year took on added gravity. Weaner urged support for the soldiers stationed in more than 120 countries worldwide. The North Jr. High Choir sang “Dream a Dream” and “God Bless America,” after the benediction. The rifle salute was by Veterans of Foreign Wars and taps was played by John Nixon of the American Legion. The Minnesota Women’s Bowling Association served refreshments. Let’s honor our veterans and soldiers and remember the contributions they make to protect the freedom the Americans enjoy.
