Members of the Kingston Johnson Kelly American Legion Auxiliary met Tuesday evening, June 26, at 7:30 p.m. for their regular monthly meeting. The meeting was called to order by President Barb Root. The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag was said by all, as well as singing the National Anthem and reciting the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. Secretary Judy Compton took roll call and read the minutes of the May meeting. Mary Jane Arens gave the treasurer’s report and Ann Hamilton, acting chaplain, gave the prayer. The business of the month took place, after which the presentation and installation of officers for the new year 2008 took place with past president Ann Hamilton presiding: president Lauri Wells, first vice president Sandi Smith, second vice president Jan Nelson, sergeant-at-arms Linda Atkinson, secretary Judy Compton, treasurer Mary Jane Arens, historian Mary Jane Arens, chaplain Sandi Smith and public relations Ann Hamilton. Our next meeting will be our “Membership Month” meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday evening, Aug. 28, with a pork dinner from 6-6:30 p.m. (sponsored and furnished by Kingston American Legion Post members). Auxiliary hostesses are Cindy Arens, Lauri Wells and Alice Von Ende. Notice to all auxiliary members via the “Legionaire” and auxiliary bulletin: We will not receive our national dues notices until October – we still need to pay our dues in August (thank you). As of May, there are 5,239 auxiliary members in Minnesota. There were 404 young women who attended “Girls’ State” at the 61st session June 10 at Bethel University, learning about Minnesota government. Let’s remember our veterans and soldiers, wherever they may be fighting for us. Let’s “salute our heroes.” We can fly our flags and let them know we care. “Freedom is not free.” The American legion motto is: “Always forward, backwards never.” Let’s honor our military all week long the week of July 4.
