The May meeting of the Kingston Johnson Kelly American Legion Post 483 Auxiliary met Tuesday evening, May 20, at the Kingston Community Center. The meeting was called to order by President Sandi Smith, with prayers by Chaplain Pearl Happajoki. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited, the “Star Spangled Banner” and part of the National Anthem was sung, and the Preamble to the Constitution was repeated. Roll call and minutes of the past meeting were read by Secretary Judy Compton, and the treasurer’s report was read by Mary Jane Arens. Present business was discussed, including reports by volunteers to St. Cloud Medical Center; the Memorial Day service on May 26; the Memorial Day Parade committee. Lunch was served by Sandi Smith and Mary Jane Arens. Chaplain Pearl Haapajoki held a Memorial Day service for deceased auxiliary members. “We shall keep in hallowed memory the lives of these members whom we have loved and last a while.” On Monday, May 19, volunteer members went to St. Cloud Medical Center where they assisted program director Amy Kindell with the monthly veterans birthday party. Volunteers were Jan Nelson, Alice Von Ende and Rudy Justison. May birthdays were Louis, Walton and Harry. Lori Wells furnished cake, and Ann Hamilton brought cookies. Refreshments were served to all present.
