The Kimball volleyball team faced a pair of worthy opponents last week and came away with losses. Tuesday, Sept. 18, the girls were defeated by Royalton, 0-3. Their Thursday match-up was with Pierz, and the Pioneers prevailed, 3-1.

(Royalton Match) Set scores were 9-25, 17-25, and 15-25.

“We struggled to get any sort of offense going because we had a hard time serve-receiving to an aggressive serving team. We had some good scrap at times and our defense has improved,” Coach Tabitha Mortenson commented. Match highlights include Emma Antigua (freshman) with 5 kills and Erin O’Brien (senior) with 6. Antigua also had 12 digs and senior Madaline Gustafson had 10.

(Pierz Match) “Although we lost to Pierz last night, we did do a better job of going after the ball. Pierz had multiple opportunities to win the match in three, but we found a way to keep fighting. We were able to keep more balls in play and put the ball in difficult-to-
defend places, which forced more mistakes from the Pioneers,” said Coach Mortenson. Set scores were 22-25, 19-25, 27-25, and 21-25. Match highlights include Erin O’Brien with 14 kills, Emma Antigua with 8 kills and 18 set assists, and Madeline Gustafson with 20 digs.
