Lady Stars at Herb Brooks Holiday Classic

It’s time for the holidays, and that means it’s time for the River Lakes girls’ hockey team to participate in the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic (Gold Division). The electrifying extravaganza took place Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Dec. 26-28, at Schwan’s Super Rink #2. The Lady Stars fell to the Luverne Cardinals, 4-2, in the opening round. Day two saw River Lakes topple Hudson, 5-2, and the wrap-up game featured the Stars versus Mounds View/Irondale. River Lakes girls lost that one, 3-0, making their tournament experience a 1-2 fun-filled and worthwhile endeavor.

Mounds View/Irondale hockey girls defeated River Lakes, 3-0, on Thursday, Dec. 28. There were no team or individual game statistics available at press time. This was River Lakes’ final game in the Herb Brooks Holiday Classic at Schwan’s Super Rink No. 2 in Blaine’s National Sports Center. The Stars (10-5-2) play host to -Fergus Falls at 7:15 on Thursday, Jan. 4, River Lakes Civic Arena in Richmond.
