Dec. 14, 2006 Ind. School District 739 Kimball, Minn. The meeting was called to order by chair Kuechle at 6:31 p.m. with all members except Laabs present. Member Laabs arrived at 6:53 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance was said by all in attendance. Motion by Peglow, second by Kersten to approve the agenda as amended, moving the Community Education Report up to immediately follow this action. MC Kris O’Brien, Community Education director gave a presentation to the board explaining and showing the “Who, What, When, Where, and Why” of Community Education. The purpose of the presentation was to reiterate the purpose of Community Education and to show the versatility that is available, but often forgotten. Ms. O’Brien shared copies of the most recent Cub Prints with the Board, and was thanked for her presentation. After review of the listed bills, motion by Peglow, seconded by Kersten to approve payment of $119,970.08. MC Motion by Kersten, seconded by VanVleet to approve the consent agenda. MC. The consent agenda included: a. Approve minutes of Nov. 16, 2006 Regular Board Meeting. b. Approve minutes of Nov. 30, 2006 Truth In Taxation Hearing. c. Accept donation received from Kimball Firemen’s Relief Association in the amount of $200 for Community Education. Motion by VanVleet, seconded by Peglow to approve maternity leave request submitted by Nancy Bonnifield, from on or about March 19 and continuing for eight weeks to about May 15. MC Motion by VanVleet, seconded by Laabs to accept a donation of $750 received from the All Sports Boosters to be used toward the purchase of cardio equipment for the fitness center. MC The treasurer’s report was reviewed and discussed.  Motion by Laabs, seconded by Peglow to certify the 2006 Payable 2007 Levy for a total of $1,667,223.93. MC No action was taken on a pay request by the Media Assistants. Motion by VanVleet, seconded by Kersten passing the Resolution for Statutory Operating Debt Recovery. UC  Celebrations and Successes of Students and Staff included the well-attended Holiday staff party held on Dec. 9. The various sports teams are all doing quite well this season. The high school band and choir concert was held on Dec. 11. This program will be broadcast on KDUZ radio. The 7th-grade girls’ basketball team won their game against Eden Valley-Watkins this afternoon. Mr. Widvey shared the agenda for the upcoming band trip in April, 2007. Mr. Riess is sitting on a committee that is putting together a grant request for teaching history in the schools represented by the committee. Mr. Klein along with Mr. Widvey started putting together the course listing and descriptions for the 2007-2008 school year. It is hoped to have this to the board for approval in January. The year has gone by very quickly, and the students are ready for the holiday break. Mr. Clark reported on the Books, Bingo and Brownies activity for Title I families. The elementary hosted two holiday programs on Dec. 4 and 5. The annual Knowledge Bowl meet was held on Dec. 7 and was very successful with many volunteer parents and staff. The annual 4th- and 6th-grade fish fry is coming up on Jan. 12 at Playland. The School of Excellence team is meeting on Monday, Dec. 18; board members are invited to attend. Mr. Tritabaugh reported on Elementary Students of the Month for December. They are: Krista Loch, Brooklyn Smith, Emily Utecht, Olivia Strmic, Grace Kopitzke, Amy Jendro, and Ashley Borstad. The Joint Powers Agreement that had been signed at an earlier meeting has been revised correcting some minor grammar errors, so was in need of new signatures. Reminded the board of their invitation to stop by the District Office on Dec. 21 to share some holiday treats provided by he and his wife, Laurie. Meet and Confer met on Dec. 6; the question was asked why only two days of comp time can be carried over. Upcoming committee meetings include BSED on Dec. 20, Stearns County Family Services Collaborative on Dec. 27, BSED and Meet & Confer on Jan. 17, School Board meeting on Jan. 18, and a SEE meeting on Jan. 19. There were no additional committee reports.  Communications included a thank you card from Mary Mathies and the high school Food Service Advisory Committee minutes.
