Legion auxiliary visits medical center, holds meeting

Volunteer members Ruby Justison, Alice Von Ende, Jan Nelson and Ann Hamilton of the Johnson Kelly American Legion Post 483 auxiliary went to the St. Cloud VA Medical Center Monday, Sept. 22. There they assisted Amy Kendall, activities director, at the monthly veterans’ birthday party. Veterans’ birthdays for September were John D., Eli A., Robert H., Edward S. and Dale H. There were about 27 veterans and visitors present, and all took part in singing. Amy played the piano and a variety of songs were sung. The auxiliary volunteers furnished bars and cookies baked by Alice Von Ende and Ann Hamilton as part of the Home Service program of the American Legion Auxiliary. Beverages were also served. The Kingston ladies volunteer in Building 51. Jan Nelson is the veterans rehabilitation program chairperson for 2003-04. Public Relations Chair,  Ann Hamilton he members of the Kingston Johnson Kelly American Legion Post 483 Auxiliary met Tuesday evening, Sept. 30, for their September business meeting. Girl’s-stater Nicole Swenson, daughter of Jeff and Michelle Swenson of Dassel, and boy’s-stater Zack Mackereth, son of Wayne and Kathy Mackereth of Kimball, gave reports on their trips. They were sponsored by Kingston American Legion Post and Auxiliary. It was a learning experience for the juniors. Separate business meetings were held after the reports. Commander Philip Rokala was in charge of the post meeting, and Sandi Smith called the auxiliary meeting to order. Prayers were led by the chaplain, the national anthem was sung, and the Pledge of Allegiance was recited along with the Preamble to the Constitution of the American Legion Auxiliary. Roll-call was taken, the minutes of the last meeting were read by the reporter, and the treasurer gave a report. The unit reserved certificates of merit for the national security program and unit senior histories, as well as well as for “Meritorious Service” in carrying forward the national program of the American Legion Auxiliary. After the conclusion of the business meeting lunch was served by Alice Root, Judy Compton and Gladys Carlin. The post members joined the auxiliary members for lunch. The next meeting will take place at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28. Public Relations Chair,  Ann Hamilton
