Lester Matthees of South Haven died Thursday, June 28, 2007, at the V.A. Medical Center in St. Cloud. He was 77. Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 7, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Fair Haven with the Rev. Timothy Ne-rud officiating. Interment will follow in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Friday, July 6, at Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7 p.m. Friday. Lester Edwin Matthees was born March 2, 1930, in Stearns County to Edwin J. and Marie (Hoffman) Matthees. He served during the Korean War as a member of the U.S. Army and then farmed in Southside Township, Wright County, until retiring in 1997. He was also a part-time Wright County deputy sheriff until 1980. Lester married Norma Reid March 25, 1958, in Concordia Lutheran Church. He was a member of Concordia Lutheran Church and South Haven VFW Post 7332. He was a former member of the South Haven Fire Department and South Haven Sportsman’s Club. Lester was preceded in death by his parents; an infant son; brother Floyd; and sister LaVer Meinke. Lester is survived by his wife Norma of South Haven; son and daughter Roger (and Fay) Petzel of Oconto, Wis., and Marie Working of South Haven; grandsons Thomas (and Melissa) Working of Tigard, Ore., and Gregory Working of Wausau, Wis.; and great-grandson Dylan Working of Tigard, Ore. Organist will be Ruth Fry.
