‘Let Them Play MN’ founder to run for Minnesota House

·

Dawn Gillman, a local small business owner and founder of the “Let Them Play MN” group that fought to reopen youth sports during the pandemic, announced today that she will run for Minnesota House in District 17A which includes Northwest Sibley County, most of McLeod County including the City of Hutchinson, western Wright County, and eastern Meeker County.

“The experience of leading a grassroots movement to let our kids keep playing sports, and fighting anti-science government mandates has inspired me to take the next step and run to represent McLeod, Meeker, and Sibley County in the legislature,” Gillman said. “I want our kids to be free from masks and mandates in our schools. I want politics kept out of the classroom. I want our communities to be safe from criminals and violent crime, and I want the legislature to give us our money back. I can’t wait to harness the energy from the Let Them Play movement and bring these and other voices from our area to the Capitol.”

Gillman is co-owner of Porta-Dock Inc. in Dassel, a second generation family business. Dawn has been married for 27 years to Brian Gillman. They have a transracial family that includes five children. Dawn’s husband Brian was a volunteer fireman for nearly 25 years in Dassel, where Dawn served alongside of Brian with the women’s auxiliary. The Gillman’s attend and serve at Cornerstone Church in Cokato. They also volunteer with the local schools and sporting events.
