Letter from Marcia Mahlum

Dear Kimball community,

I moved to Kimball to provide a small-town experience for my children, similar to what I had growing up in southwest Minnesota.

What has impressed me most about Kimball is the commitment to remain a small and connected community where people know and support one another.

Nov. 3, we will be called to once again support our community with the upcoming vote on the school levy and bond. Items up for vote will allow us to maximize state aid for operating costs; bring back programs that were once cut; and upgrade our science, technology and trades for our students. Additional items up for vote will provide facilities to gather our community and nurture lifelong habits of wellness.

What has impacted my desire to vote YES is seeing the outdated facilities and equipment available at our school. Our kids deserve better. They deserve quality facilities and learning environments that maximize their potential. They deserve an array of course offerings that will best prepare them for their future.

Just like the cost of living has increased, the cost of operating a school has increased. As a single parent, managing my finances is a priority, just as it is for many other families. But when it comes to my children?Äôs future, and the future of my neighbor kids, kids that go to my church, or those who have yet started school, an average of $1/month increase on my taxes* is well worth it. In addition to the academic facility upgrades, what a tremendous asset it would be to have a community fitness center and community auditorium. No more driving to surrounding towns for these services and programs!

Please take the time to review the facts about the levy and bond on the district website: www.kimball.k12.mn.us

Attend the public meeting Wednesday, Oct. 21.

Go to an event at school and take a tour of the current facilities so you can see first-hand the district needs.

This is an exciting time for our community to further develop this special place we call home, and to provide incredible spaces and places to exercise, learn and gather. I hope you will join me on Nov. 3, and vote YES for our future.

GO CUBS!

* $1/month is for Question 1, the operating levy portion. There is a tax calculator on the school?Äôs website to see how your taxes will be affected for each question.
