Lillian Wittenberg of Annandale died Sunday, March 28, 2004, at the Annandale Care Center. She was 99. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 3, at Zion United Methodist Church in South Haven with Rev. Heather E. Klason officiating. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery in Annandale. Friends may call one hour prior to the funeral. Lillian Elsie Wittenberg was born July 8, 1904, in rural Kimball to Henry and Emelia (Klapotz) Hinz. She married Frank E. Wittenberg April 25, 1923, on the Wittenberg farm in South Haven. They lived in New Auburn and later farmed in rural South Haven. Frank preceded her in death Dec. 4, 1953, and Lillian remained on the farm until moving to Annandale in 1979. She has been a resident of the Annandale Care Center since June 2001. Lillian was a member of Zion United Methodist Church in South Haven. She loved her family, church, farm work, cooking and baking. Lillian was preceded in death by her husband Frank, son Norman, brothers Fritz, Carl, Herman, Max, George, Clarence and Walter Wittenberg, and sisters Hulda Johnston and Emma Appel, and a stillborn grandson. She is survived by her son Frank “Buster” Wittenberg of Annandale; daughter-in-law Fern Wittenberg of South Haven; sisters Agnes Nessa of Chanhassen and Ada Quist of Minneapolis; five grandchildren: Kathleen (and Lyman) Bodeker-Hull, James (and Karen) Wittenberg, Donna (and Bruce) Guggisberg, Bruce (and Kathy) Wittenberg, and Darlene Randall; 15 great-grandchildren, many great-great-grandchildren and three great-great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Nick and Mike Guggisberg, Norm Bodeker, Gordon Hesse, John Lebens and Chad Wallenbeck. The organist for the funeral will be Jamie Miller. Arrangements were by Dingmann Funeral Care of Annandale.
