A bike run was held Saturday, Aug. 18, in memory of Linda Salmela. Although it was a rainy day and not ideal for a motorcycle ride, many people still participated in the 135-mile run that started at LaLa’s in South Haven and went to Cedar Mills, Mannannah, Pearl Lake, and ended at Shawn and Karri Stuve’s. After the run, there was a benefit held for Katy Stewart-James, who has been bravely fighting the battle against leukemia. Many may be familiar with her story. There has been a generously wonderful outpouring of support over the past months to help out the family with the expensive costs involved with her treatments and all the issues that go with it. And this was one more way that people have shown that they care and wish to help. Many local business and vendors donated to help make this fund raiser a success. Thanks goes out to EZ Crusher, French Lake Auto, Miller Jewelry, Holiday, South Haven Sports, Tootsie’s Bar, Annandale Video, JB Liquor, Main Street Pub, Son of a Butcher, Kimball Bargain Buys, Knaus Meats, French Lake Butcher, Waste Management, Artic Ice, Quality Liquor, Diva’s, Viking Coke, DJ Stacy Huff, and the Salmela and Stuve families for their donations to the event. They were able to raise more than $2,000 for Katy. The Stewart-James family was very grateful for the love and support shown this day and over the past year. They appreciate everything that is done as they continue to need our help, support, and prayers during Katy’s continued treatments.
