‘Living with chronic illness’ subject of MCMH talk

Meeker County Memorial Hospital (MCMH) will host a support group fall program from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23. The event will feature a presentation called “Living With Chronic Illness” by Robert L. Kane, M.D. MCMH says “Participants will be inspired to better manage and understand how to ‘live’ their lives with chronic conditions. “All MCMH Support Group members and area residents are invited to attend this program. Dr. Kane will bring expertise to the audience with his background and experience.” Kane is the endowed chair in Long-term Care and Aging, directs the Center on Aging and the Minnesota Geriatric Education Center, and co-directs the University’s Clinical Outcomes Research Center. He was the Dean of the University of Minnesota School of Public Health from 1985-1990. Kane has conducted numerous research studies on both the outcome of clinical care and the organization of care, with special attention to the care of older persons, especially those needing long-term care. He currently directs an Evidence-based Practice Center. He is the author and/or editor of more than 20 books, 250 journal articles, and book chapters on health services research and geriatrics. Kane serves on the World Health Organizations Expert Committee on Aging. His current research addresses the outcomes of acute and long-term care, especially the effects of hospital and post-hospital care and better ways to deliver chronic care. He has received the Presidents Award from the American Society on Aging and the Polisher Award from the Gerontological Society of America. Kane received his medical degree in preventive medicine at the Harvard Medical School in 1965. For more information about this free program contact MCMH at (320) 693-4510.
