Local piano students perform, receive award

Barb Root’s piano students presented their annual Spring Recital Sunday, April 27, at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Kingston. Musical selections included everything from Haydn to contemporary music. The program also included a student pianist accompanying a vocalist on “The Rose,” and a trio performing “Stars and Stripes Forever.” Students who performed at the recital were Sven Aho, Robin Rokala, Sophia Aho, Breanna Hanan, Rhonda Rokala, Hannah Zipoy, Shiana Aho, Brittany Wuollet, Cameron Wittenberg, Debbie Rokala, Erin Dingmann, Sydney Ashbrook, Nicole Knick-erbocker, Kaysha Beckermann, Kelsey Vigoren, Jillian Yanish, Andrew Dingmann, Kayla Rais-anen, Caitlin Torola, Carmen Dischinger, Matthew Dingmann, Karen Hendrickson, Tyson Laakkonen and Coralie Peterson. Honors Recitals The Lake Area Music Teachers Forum sponsored four piano Honors Recitals the weekend of May 14. Two took place Friday, May 14, at Gethsemane Lutheran in Dassel, and two were Sunday, May 16, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cokato. Pianists from the Kimball area performing in the Honors Recitals were Nicole Knickerbocker, Karen Hendrickson, Coralie Peterson, Tyson Laakkonen, Robin Rokala, Rhonda Rokala, Debbie Rokala, Kelsey Vigoren, Rachel Lahr and Carmen Dischinger. Students at the Honors Recital were recognized for earning various Lake Area Music Teachers Forum ribbon awards. The ribbons represent achievement in areas such as memorization, reading music, public performance, accompaniment and significant musical progress. Other recognitions Students were also recognized for participation in various activities. Students recognized for participating in the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Festival were Shelby Anderson, Sydney Ashbrook, Kaysha Beckermann, Andrew Dingmann, Erin Dingmann, Karen Hendrickson, Nicole Knickerbocker, Tyson Laakkonen, Rachel Lahr, Rhonda Rokala, Robin Rokala, Debbie Rokala, John Tiemann, Stephen Tiemann, Caitlin Torola, Jillian Yanish and Hannah Zipoy. Tyson Laakkonen and Coralie Peterson were recognized for being MMTA State Contest finalists. Carmen Dischinger, Rachel Lahr, Tyson Laakkonen, John Tiemann and Stephen Tiemann were recognized for completing Level 1 of the MMTA Theory Exam. Linnea Tiemann was recognized for completing MMTA Bridges. Congratulations to all of these fine musicians for a job well done!
