Late morning Friday, March 10, Kimball police chief Jason Mehr got a call from Canadian Pacific Railway. A cow had been walking along the railroad tracks toward Kimball. The white-faced Hereford heifer turned off the tracks, through Matt Knaus?Äô yard, and into Willow Creek Park. That?Äôs where Mehr and Public Works director Ed Borman found her.
They checked a couple of nearby farmers, but no one was home. Borman called his wife Rose who posted it on Facebook to see if the owner could be located. Eventually the farmer was found; the heifer had come from a farm near A Shau Valley WMA near South Haven. The heifer went right up to the farmer and his trailer, and she went home.
Borman said they thought dogs or coyotes had spooked the heifer and she had wandered off.
