Maida Hinz of South Haven died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at the St. Cloud Hospital. She was 90. Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kimball with Rev. Dave Milz officiating. Burial followed in Concordia Lutheran Cemetery in Fair Haven. Friends called from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Kimball, and one hour prior to services at the church. A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Monday. Maida Emelia Ottilie Hinz was born June 4, 1913, in Chippewa Falls, Wis., to William and Martha (Pagenkopf) Handt. She married Sidney C. Hinz Oct. 31, 1943, in Monticello; he preceded her in death Nov. 12, 1980. Maida was a homemaker and farmed with her husband in Maine Prairie Township, Stearns County. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church, and a former member of Concordia Lutheran Church. Maida was preceded in death by her husband; sisters Pauline Frank and Doris Schick; and brothers Bernard and Robert Handt. She is survived by her six children and their spouses, Robert Hinz and Barbara Benson of Mill Valley, Calif.; Patricia (and Richard) Peterson of Kimball; Catherine (and David) Hollermann of Carlos; Ralph Hinz of South Haven; Richard (and Sherry) Hinz of Kimball; Russell Hinz of South Haven; sister Mildred Kleinheinz of Chippewa Falls, Wis.; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were her four sons and two sons-in-law. Memorials are preferred to the American Diabetes Association.
