The Maine Prairie Cemetery Association is seeking monetary help to maintain our cemetery grounds. This cemetery, as all cemeteries, are finding that their financial obligations far exceed their annual income. There was a time when the sell of a gravesite and the adding of perpetual care would cover our maintenance cost. That time is long since past. Mowing and weed whipping are the only paid positions. Tree trimming, setting of monuments, marking of grave sites, and spraying for noxious weeds is done on a volunteer basis, including the cost of spray. Rodent control and the up-keep on the driveways are also done on donated time and material.
Maine Prairie Cemetery was established March 28, 1908, and incorporated August 2000. We celebrated our centennial in 2008, and discovered that we have a total of 58 veterans: 12 Civil War vets, five WW I, 12 WW II, one Korean War, four Viet Nam, and 24 others interred in our cemetery. If you have a loved one or family member interred at Maine Prairie, please consider donating as little as $5, or as much as $100, any and all donations will be appreciated. The Maine Prairie Cemetery is not supported by, or affiliated with a church, or a township entity.
Donations can be sent to Joann Hendricks, treasurer, or Dean Mozena, president. Please make checks payable to Maine Prairie Cemetery Association.
