Through the pages of history, you come upon 147 years looking back. This year, more than 400 people are expected to experience the Kimball Area Historical society’s annual history exhibit in Kimball’s own house of antiquity, City Hall. Folks will come from all parts of this great country – adults and school children – as curious visitors look for a window to our past. What will everyone remember? The 12,000-year-old mammoth tusk that is the only one of its kind found this far north in Minnesota. Keepsake artifacts from the kitchens of Gen Robinson and Ethel Mozena. A Kimball Community Band uniform from the early 1900s. Dr. Sherwood’s house-call medical bag and a horseshoe from his Kimball farm. Civil War history on display and interpreted. A 500 million-year-old rock containing potassium, feldspar and three other minerals. And so much more. There will also be great door prizes to win. Whew! So far, we’ve given you just a taste of what you’ll discover at this year’s exhibit. And don’t forget to take more than a peek at our live model railroad in action – complete with sound effects and “engineer.” Kimball residents and visitors will find a greater understanding of what Kimball is and how it came to be. Historians will help you find meaning and intrigue in what many only vaguely remember from long-forgotten history lessons. The Kimball Area Historical Society is honored and committed to telling the story of how Kimball emerged and the role this 19th-century pioneer community played in the making of a nation. The interest in our past has never been greater than it is today – which makes it a particular honor to be sharing Kimball’s rich history during this time. Your support, appreciation of our Historical Society’s mission, and your commitment add immeasurably to the spirit of those who work to collect and preserve the history of this extraordinary place. Further, your gifts and memberships to the Society enable us to continue to present our special history. We hope you are able to visit our third annual history exhibit in Kimball’s historic and air-conditioned City Hall on Aug. 8-10. There’s still one place where your memories can come to life. Also, you’re invited to our “Supper in the Park” from 5-8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, for hot beef on homemade buns, potato salad, baked beans, beverage and dessert. (And, oh yes, superior quality hot dogs, if you prefer). Great meal, great price. Come on over to Willow Creek Park Shelter that Friday evening. Your Kimball Area Historical Society P.O.
