Marie Vogelpohl of Watkins, formerly of Paynesville died Friday, June 9, 2017, at the Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins. She was 79. 
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, June 21, at the Gethsemane Chapel in Hilltop Health Care Center with Pastor Lloyd Melvie officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services at the Gethsemane Chapel. Interment will be in Eden Lake Cemetery in Eden Valley.
Marie Sylvia Vogelpohl was born Aug. 24, 1937, to Erwin and Lena (Blomker) Vogelpohl. She was raised in Eden Valley on the family farm with her four brothers and two sisters. Marie finished high school in 1955, and worked at Mike’s Café in Paynesville and other cafes throughout the years. She retired from Tuck’s Café in Paynesville after 25 years.
She always looked forward to the family 4th of July picnic every year, and was happy to see all the family. She met everyone with a big smile.
Marie had traveled to the state of Virginia to see her brother Marvin and his family. She also had traveled to Germany with her brother Vincent and his wife to see their brother Jimmy and his family. Marie enjoyed playing dice and bingo. She also enjoyed cooking and baking.
Marie resided in Paynesville all of her adult life until 2013, when she moved to the Hilltop Health Care Center in Watkins.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents Erwin and Lena; siblings Vera, Vernon, Marvin, Jimmy, Betty, and Vincent; nephews Scott and Allen.
She is survived by her many nieces and nephews, and many special friends that came into her life.
