Marrell Thurber died Monday, Aug. 9, 2004, at his South Haven home. He was 74. Family and friends visited from 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale. Marrell Edward Thurber was born Aug. 4, 1930, in Litchfield to Clayton and Lila (Foster) Thurber. He married Bernice Maurer April 20, 1953. He owned and operated Mattson Building and Supply in Cokato for 37 years and retired in 1985. Marrell served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed fishing, photography, woodworking and wood carving. Marrell was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers: Leo, Clayton Jr., and Virgil. He is survived by his wife Bernice of South Haven; his children Connie (and Frank) Porcaro of Berkeley, Calif.; Wanda (and Jim) Kuseske of St. Cloud; Pam Engen of Paynesville; James (and Janet) Thurber of Annandale; Bob (and Colleen) Thurber of South Haven; Don (and Bonnie) Thurber of Kimball; Karla (and Randy) Sommers of St. Cloud; sister Violet Kramber of Glenwood; 18 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
