The Marty Mudcats 16U Fastpitch softball team traveled to Elk River early Sunday morning, Sept. 28, to compete in the Minnesota Metro Fastpitch League (MMFL) Fall State Tournament. The MMFL Fall State Tournament saw 68 teams competing in 4 tiers. The teams were seeded based on the Rating Percentage Index, commonly known as the RPI, which is a quantity used to rank sports teams based upon a team?Äôs wins and losses and its strength of schedule. It is one of the systems by which NCAA basketball, baseball, softball, hockey, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball teams are ranked.
The Mudcats were placed in tier one, top 20 teams in the state, finishing the regular season with five wins,
two losses and one tie. It was a beautiful day for softball but the Mudcats were unable to pull off a win, losing the first game by a score of 3 to 4 to the MN Combat Gold and the second game vs the Xtreme 99 had the same outcome. The Cats enjoyed the fall season and had fun competing against some very good teams from all over the state. The Mudcats were coached by Kim Ribar, Shannon Miller and Mary Libbesmeier this fall.
