Mary Ann Sandberg, devoted wife and mother, died peacefully at her home on Lake Francis, rural South Haven, Thursday, Feb. 12, 2004. She was 82. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, at Grace Lutheran Church in rural South Haven with Rev. Michael Nelson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Family and friends called from 2-5 p.m. Sunday at the Dingmann Funeral Care Chapel in Annandale, and one hour prior to the funeral Monday at the church. A prayer service was held at 4 p.m. Sunday. Mary Ann Sandberg was born Aug. 19, 1921, to Hans and Anna (Sande) Nelson in Christine, N.D. She graduated from Christine High School and married L. Martin Sandberg Sept. 8, 1940, in Moorhead, Minn. Mary Ann lived in New Hope for 15 years before moving to Lake Francis in 1980. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in rural South Haven. Mary Ann was very creative. She loved her family and living on Lake Francis. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents and six brothers. She is survived by her husband L. Martin of South Haven; sons Larry (and Joanne) Sandberg of Monticello; David (and Cheryl) Sandberg of Bonita Springs, Fla.; and Scott Sandberg of South Haven; daughters Joan (and Peter) Perusse of Crystal, Judy Kudrle of Mankato, and Sue Kumpula of Buffalo; brother Robert (and Lois) Nelson of Sioux City, Iowa; sister Edna Nelson of Mesa, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren: Chris (and John) Goebel, Eric Sandberg, Lee (and April) Sandberg, Shelly (and Jack) Ditter, Gena (and Randy) Snodgrass, Jaimee and Jenna Kudrle, Anna and Emily Kumpula, Joe and Dan Perusse, Steven and Sarah Sandberg; and 11 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Lee, Eric and Steven Sandberg, Joe and Dan Perusse, and Brady Logan. Organist for the funeral was Carolyn Thompson. Memorials are preferred.
