Mary Ann Stenger of Watkins died Thursday, June 7, 2007, at the Hilltop Care Center in Watkins. She was 77. Mass of Christian Burial was held Tuesday, June 12, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins with Rev. John Brunner officiating. Burial followed in the parish cemetery. Mary Ann Stenger was born Sept. 9, 1929, in Watkins to Jacob and Anne (Hennen) Becker. She grew up in Watkins and received her education at the local country school. Mary Ann was united in marriage to Peter Herbert Stenger June 14, 1952, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Watkins. They made their home on Clear Lake near Watkins from 1953 to the present. Mary Ann was a member of the Catholic Aid Assoc., the Council of Catholic Women, American Legion Auxiliary, and the VFW Auxiliary for which she held several offices. She worked for many years at St. Anthony School as head cook. She was known for her homemade cinnamon and caramel rolls. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Nick, Aloise, Clifford and William Becker, and sister Aurelia Winter. She is survived by her husband Peter of Watkins; children Michael (and Carol) Stenger of Watkins, Douglas (and Linda) Stenger of Watkins; grandchildren Christopher, Nathaniel, Jenna and Scott Stenger, all of Watkins; and brother Donald Becker of Kimball. Music was by Mary Streit and the church choir. Casket bearers were Christopher, Nathaniel, Jenna, Scott, Richard and John Stenger. Arrangements were by Ertl Funeral Home in Watkins.
