Mary Asfeld, 82
Mary K. Asfeld of Watkins died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at the Emmanual Nursing Home in Litchfield. She was 82.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the Ostmark Lutheran Church in Forest City Township, Pastor J. David Nelson officiated. Visitation was held from 5-8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7, at the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home in Litchfield and one hour prior to services at the church. A V.F.W. Auxiliary prayer service took place at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 7. Interment was at the Ostmark Lutheran Cemetery.
Mary Kathryn Asfeld was born March 22, 1921, to John George and Nina Helena (Hallberg) Kramp of Spink County, S.D. She grew up on a farm in rural South Dakota and moved to rural Meeker County with her parents in 1934. She attended country school and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1939. After graduation, she completed normal training and obtained a teaching certificate. She taught in several rural schools in Meeker County. She was united in marriage with Alphonse N. Asfeld on Dec. 31, 1941, in Watkins. They lived and farmed in rural Meeker County. Mary continued to teach in rural schools until her retirement in 1970. Mary was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary and Forest City Women’s Club. She enjoyed pets, crafts, farm life, music, dancing, reading and playing cards. Mary especially enjoyed her new home, her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents John and Nina Kramp.
She is survived by her husband Alphonse, of Watkins; daughter Nina Marie (and Craig) Leiser of Stillwater; son John (and Sue) Asfeld of Watkins; grandchildren Rebecca (and Steve) Capezza, Michelle (and Nick) Guida, Melissa (and Andy) Lewis, Jennifer (and Steve) Kinzer, Jill (and Mike) Smith, and Jay Asfeld; five great-grandchildren, Alec, Marissa, Bethany, Emma and Nicholas; nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Arrangements were made by the Johnson-Hagglund Funeral Home of Litchfield.
