Recently a group of eight 4-H?Äôers from Meeker County had the opportunity to travel to the Black Hills of South Dakota for the Black Hills Stock Show Youth Day. The youth participated in two events, hippology and horse bowl. The competition took place Saturday, Jan. 28.
In hippology, the study of horse, youth completed three components. They took a written test, completed 10 stations relating to parts of the horse, and completed a team problem where they had to come up with a solution to a real life scenario related to horse. Youth on the hippology team were Ally Eblen, Maggie Malling, Abby Thompson, and Annika Soderlund. They competed as a senior team and placed third out of five teams. Ally Eblen placed second individually.
In horse bowl, teams compete in quiz competitions with questions specific to horse. The youth competed as two teams. Team One participants were Annika Soderlund, Maggie Malling, Abby Thompson, and Bailey Woehler. Team Two participants were Ally Eblen, Zoe Eblen, Paige Frenchick, and Emily Porter. Team One placed first and Team Two placed third out of 10 teams. Individually, Maggie Malling received first and Emily Porter third in answering the most questions.
