Meeker Co-op Recycling Program

·

Meeker Cooperative will be holding its annual Recycling Program for used fluorescent lamps, ballasts, batteries and electronics for businesses and residents in its service territory Wednesday-Thursday, Aug. 22-23. The program is open from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the cooperative’s new office, 1725 East Hwy. 12, Litchfield. Please carefully wrap all used lamps in the original carton or a similar box and tape the box shut. The number and size of the lamps must be indicated on the outside of each box. Please do not tape the lamps together, as this will result in additional handling charges. The program will not accept broken lamps. Ballasts, batteries and electronics should also be packed into boxes, however, these boxes should NOT be taped shut. The weight in pounds should be indicated on the outside of the box. Lamp types and recycling costs include: fluorescents 4-foot and under and CFLs, 60 cents; fluorescents 5-feet and over, 80 cents; U-shaped and circular, 80 cents; high intensity (HIDs), $2; compact fluorescent, 60 cents; ballast (non-PCB), 80 cents/pound; ballast (PCB), $1.30/pound; electronics (includes all computer hardware), 90 cents/pound; batteries (alk, nicd, nmh, gel cell, sla, lithium ion), $1.30/pound; and batteries (lithium), $8.75/pound. You can also schedule a pick-up at your location by calling the office by Friday, Aug. 17 (there is no pick-up charge for billing of $150 or more; for pick-ups less than $150, there will be a $50 charge). A 15 percent discount will be offered to Meeker’s Commerical & Industrial members. Meeker Cooperative will invoice your business for the number of lamps recycled and the total weight in pounds of ballasts, batteries and electronics. You will receive a copy of the Certificate of Recycling from Green Lights Recycling Inc. to ensure your recyclables have been properly disposed of. Please note that Meeker County does not collect spent lamps during its annual hazardous waste collection, so this may be your only opportunity to recycle in 2007. For more information, call (320) 693-3231 or (800) 232-6257 Monday-Friday, 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
