At 12:38 a.m. Saturday, April 29, the Meeker County -Sheriff’s Office learned that a pursuit initiated by the Howard Lake Police Department had entered into Meeker County westbound on U.S. Highway 12, from Wright County. Meeker County Deputies learned that a complaint had been called in on the driver because the -vehicle was crossing over lanes of traffic, passed the caller on the shoulder, and then passed another vehicle and almost hit a semi head-on.
Meeker County Deputies and Litchfield Police Officers joined the pursuit in the City of Litchfield, and continued to pursue the -vehicle south on MN Highway 22. The pursuit reached speeds in excess of 100 mph. Once the driver began to slow down, a Meeker County Deputy performed a successful PIT (Pursuit Intervention Technique), and the vehicle spun out and went into the ditch. The driver was taken into custody without further incident.
The driver Khalid Mohamed Jama, 27 of Minneapolis, was arrested for fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, obstructing legal process, and reckless driving. Jama was booked into the Meeker County Jail pending a court appearance.
